From “Amazing Spider-Man” #195, by Marv Wolfman and Keith Pollard.
It’s been two years since I first posted on my Tumblr and got this whole “blogging about nerdy stuff” thing going… because, you know, before that, there wasn’t anybody on the internet blogging about nerdy stuff. And this isn’t the anniversary of this website, just the Tumblr blog it spawned from. Anyway… happy birthday to me!
This is been a very self-indulgent post.
For this week’s episode of “Because Comics,” I ended up re-reading the original six issues of “The Incredible Hulk” (because they are just so bananas), and noticed something odd… In one of the issues, the Hulk fights an evil gang of circus folk, and I realized that circuses show up a LOT in comic books, and that most of your favorite heroes have fought an evil gang of circus folk at some time or another.
It’s still Spider-Man month, but sometimes Wolverine shows up and drags Spider-Man out to a bar to watch him get drunk.

X-Men: Days of Future Past is in theaters today.
This Sunday is Mother’s Day, so I thought it would be a fun opportunity to take a look at some famous mothers (and mother-figures) in comics, and see what we can learn. And mostly, we learn that comics writers are obsessed with father issues, and mothers kind of get the short shrift.
