Zack Snyder Still Doesn’t Understand What He Did Wrong In “Man of Steel”

why-we-won-t-get-a-man-of-steel-2-anytime-soon-656294

Much has been written about Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel,” specifically the climax. We don’t need to re-tread this territory… or, at least, I didn’t think we did. But apparently Zack Snyder, in the past three years, has learned nothing.

First, this excerpt from a recent interview:
Snyder was mystified when someone told him that they couldn’t think of a movie in recent memory that’s had as much collateral damage as “Man of Steel.” “I went, really? And I said, well, what about [‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’]?” the director says. “In ‘Star Wars’ they destroy five planets with billions of people on them. That’s gotta be one of the highest death toll movies in history, the new ‘Star Wars’ movie, if you just do the math.” [via Wall Street Journal]

A couple of things – first, he gives this anecdote as if this is a conversation he had with someone, or at the very least something he has been thinking about actively since “Star Wars” came out, which means this is a RECENT story. This isn’t his reaction in the aftermath of “Man of Steel” and its critical reception – he’s reacting to the fact that “Star Wars” didn’t get called out for what he perceives as the same thing, mass destruction.

However, it’s also clear that he STILL entirely misses the point of why people are upset.

The trailer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 has some baffling implications

I didn’t see the first (well, fifth) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, but the trailer for the sequel is out. Check out the trailer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows:

This trailer and its implications are baffling. Some first impressions…

  • Are there aliens? Is this a Krang story? If so, they’re kind of burying the lead, because that’s never addressed.
  • Also, check out this movie just bringing back all the stuff you loved from the cartoon, like their sweet-ass ride, and, oh yeah, Beebop and Rocksteady.
  • April seems weirdly genre savvy about the whole “female protagonist surrounded by street gang” situation.
  • Oh yeah, I forgot, Arrow’s in this movie.
  • Meanwhile, Shredder’s just casually hanging out like he wasn’t a huge, embarrassing retcon in the first movie. That’s cool, Shredder. Just play it off like NBD.
  • Tyler Perry as Baxter Stockman… perfect casting? I mean, kinda, right?
  • The two main things Megan Fox does in the trailer are (1) get rescued and immediately fall in love, and (2) synch up her blouse to look sexy. This pretty much tracks with what I was expecting.
  • Will Arnett: voice of reason.
  • Also, hey, tanks float. Did you know tanks float? I didn’t know tanks float. Michael Bay knows a lot more about tanks than we do, I guess.
  • I have never been more annoyed by any RUN-DMC song.

For those who saw the first  movie: was it a cartoon? Because, 100%, this looks like a cartoon. I’m not entirely sure that’s a bad thing; all the TMNT movies are basically cartoons.

Also, hey, I Googled this… Isn’t it weird that Johnny Knoxville plays Leonardo? I feel like i’s definitely weird that Tony Shalhoub plays Splinter. That’s weird, right? I’m not alone?

Anyway, this movie is coming out… and despite claims that they’re ruining your childhood, your kids are gonna love it. Start saving up for those Floating Tank toys now.

The third installment of my Star Wars: The Clone Wars review series is up on PartialArc.com! Last time, we saw the emergence of General Grievous as he took down five Jedi all on his own. Today we’ll see the series bridge the gap to Revenge of the Sith, and we’ll also see Anakin get stoned and go on a spirit quest with the cast of James Cameron’s Avatar. I am not even joking, that is the plot of these episodes.

The second installment of my Star Wars: The Clone Wars reviews is up on PartialArc.com – when we left off last week, Anakin was playing chicken with an enemy ship. Today, we’ll get a lot more Vader foreshadowing, along with a few more random side stories of other Jedi doing things that don’t necessarily make a lot of sense.

Why I Game – List of Adventuring Company Sample Names

 photo reynolds-eberron-03_zps162bbd29.jpg

The scene is familiar: the DM begins describing the adventure, and your characters come together. Maybe you decide your characters have been traveling together for a long time, or you are thrown together by the events of the story, but for whatever reason, you have a group of heroes – and most groups are going to need a name…

Think about the groups of heroes you like on TV and in movies, and in novels and comics: The Avengers. The Justice League. The Fellowship of the Ring. Dumbledore’s Army. The Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense. The Impossible Missions Force. The Magnificent Seven (I’m not sure they were ever called that in the movie, but I’m still counting it).
Many of these groups get their names from the context of how the group came together, what their mission is, or who their members are.

If you’re looking for inspiration, I’ve put together a list of possible group names, which can help jump-start your own imagination:
