The Avengers Initiative Progress Report – Ranking the Marvel Studios Films So Far

Avengers Initiative Header 2

With Captain America: The Winter Soldier kicking ass at the box office, I thought it would be a good time to take a look at Marvel Studios’ efforts so far, and see how the Avengers-related movies stack up against each other.

Very minor spoilers after the jump.

“Star Wars: The Clone Wars” Recap – 1×04, “Destroy Malevolence”

We are entering a new golden age for Star Wars fans. While the prequel films were generally considered to be mediocre, the recent TV series Star Wars: The Clone Wars filled in the gaps and told new stories with the same beloved characters, and was fairly well-received. Since it’s not a show I’m terribly familiar with, I’m going to watch and review every episode, all the way up through the brand new sixth season, which aired exclusively on Netflix. This week, we’re watching “Destroy Malevolence,” where a scrappy band of rebels, including a politician and a few droids, sneak aboard the massive doomsday weapon and try to take it down from the inside – okay, maybe it’s a bit like the Death Star.

Spoilers after the jump.

Retro Reviews: Unbreakable

While every other site offers you reviews of the most current movies in theaters, someone needs to step in to review the movies that came out 10+ years ago. So hop on into the Wayback Machine with me, and let’s see what cinema has already offered…

Today’s my birthday, so I thought this would be a good opportunity for me to review one of my favorite films – which also happens to be another Samuel L. Jackson superhero movie (kind of) – Unbreakable.

For those who may not know, Unbreakable was M. Night Shyamalan’s first film after The Sixth Sense (this was back before he lost his mind and talent), but surprisingly few people seem to remember it. I actually think it’s a stronger film than The Sixth Sense in a lot of ways, but then again I am much more the target demographic for this film.

Why I Game – You’re Nothing Without Allies (Part 3)

This year is the 40th anniversary of Dungeons and Dragons. So, in celebration of that, and in light of the fact that D&D is releasing a new edition this summer, I’m posting some stories I have of playing Dungeons and Dragons and other roll-playing games.

For the last few installments of this series, I’ve spoken about my own first character quite a bit. However, the whole point of a game like Dungeons and Dragons is that you’re not the only one playing – you’re one of several players, all working together to tell a story collaboratively. That’s why, for today’s story, I’m focusing on the other players I’ve fought alongside.

“Star Wars: The Clone Wars” Recap – 1×03, “Shadow of Malevolence”

It’s a golden age for Star Wars fans. While the prequel films were generally mediocre, Star Wars: The Clone Wars filled in the gaps and told new stories with the same beloved characters. Since it’s not a show I’m terribly familiar with, I’m going to watch and review every episode, all the way up through the brand new sixth season, which aired exclusively on Netflix. This week, we’re watching “Shadow of Malevolence,” where Anakin leads a small elite squad of fighters against a massive doomsday weapon and try to blow it up and kill one of the enemy generals. For real guys, it’s nothing like the Death Star.

Spoilers after the jump.
